By: Annie Hamilton, CSW, UIRC Counselor We all know how stressful infertility and family building can be, so each week, one of our counselors will post a mental wellness tip to help you get through the stress of it all.
Welcome to Mental Health Mondays!
This week’s mental health tip: GIVE YOUR PARTNER (or anyone you care about) a 20-SECOND HUG.
Once dubbed "the universal medicine," hugs convey both comfort and affection. Now research suggests that they may have additional health benefits.
Valentine’s Day may be over, but there is always a reason to spread some love around! One way to spread the love is by giving your partner a 20-second hug. Not only is a 20-second hug good for your relationship, studies have shown that sharing a 20-second hug with your partner releases a hormone called oxytocin. Higher levels of oxytocin has been linked to lower stress levels. So, give it a try this week! Commit to giving each other a 20-second hug each day and see how it helps your stress.
Stay tuned for more tips!
